8 Ways to Enjoy Auburn Tiger Football Home Games

Written by Michael Park | Sep 6, 2022 2:15:00 PM

With college football season fast approaching, it's time to start planning exciting trips for Auburn Tiger football home games. Join the game day festivities with plenty of fellow football fans around. Here are eight ways to enjoy the games outside of the game itself!

1. Walk With the Tigers

Auburn University's Tiger Walk is one of the most replicated college football rituals of all time. The tradition started in the 1960s when faithful fans lined the streets eager for autographs from the Auburn Tigers approaching the stadium. Even if you're not a fan, it's hard not to see that the crowds and traditions synonymous with the Auburn Tiger Walk surpass all other college walk-in ceremonies.

2. Visit Toomer's Drug Store

Toomer's Drug Store has been an Auburn tradition since 1896. A visit here would not be complete without a visit to this local spot on the corner of Magnolia Avenue and College Street. Grab a bite to eat or a glass of the famous freshly-squeezed lemonade, and browse the pictures of the past and Auburn Tigers memorabilia.

3. Find the Best Tailgate Spots

If good times and equally good food is what you're after, tailgating at football games in the South is the place to be. Many Auburn local eateries have become famous for fabulous fare on game day.

Try Cheeburger-Cheeburger, Moe's Original Barbecue, or The Hound. For a beer and a bite to eat after the game, Draft House, Niffer's, or Touchdowns should do the trick!

4. Fly Eagle Fly

An incredibly moving pre-game tradition loved by fans of any football team is the flight of the eagle. Since August 2000, the Auburn eagle, Tiger (War Eagle VI), has wowed football fans with a flight around the stadium. However, since 2006, War Eagle VII (Nova), has taken over the responsibility for this unique pre-game tradition.

5. Roll Toomer's

Back in the day, the local drug store housed the only telegraph in town. Telegraph workers would festoon the powerlines with ticker tape when they received news of an Auburn Tigers win away from home. Somehow that tradition grew into decorating the two old-growth Southern live oak trees on the street corner with toilet rolls.

We now know tradition as "rolling the corner" or "rolling Toomer's." Today, Auburn residents and students decorate the trees with toilet rolls whenever something good happens at the university.

6. Walk the Beautiful Campus

Auburn University boasts impressive landscaping that makes it one of the most picturesque campuses in the country. Since the early 2000s, some streets have been closed off to make the campus more pedestrian friendly. Park your car in one of the lots around the city and then enjoy the rest of your day on foot. Before or after the game, you can enjoy a walk around the campus and the adjacent downtown area.

7. Enjoy the Stadium Experience

The Jordan Hare stadium has garnered a reputation for being one of the loudest and rowdiest college football stadiums. Loyal Auburn fans fill the stadium to capacity and let their players feel their enthusiastic support with loud cheering and singing.

8. Get Rowdy With Some of the Best Fans in College Football

Auburn fans are not shy about letting you know how much they love their team. However, they are also amongst the friendliest and most welcoming. With the offer of a handshake or a drink, supporters of opposition teams are sure to feel welcome in Auburn.
