If you haven't heard yet, there is an abundance of things to do in Auburn, Al. Visitors can experience everything from outdoor adventures in Chewacla State Park to exploring the picturesque Auburn University campus and attending an Auburn Tigers football game.

Historically, football has been an integral part of Auburn city culture and traditions. However, with the excellent quality of Alabama golf courses, golf has become a huge drawing card too. So, if you're ready for a buddy trip to play golf, you must check out Gran National near Auburn!

The History of Grand National

The Grand National course is meticulously curated along the banks of the breathtaking 600-acre Lake Saugahatchee in Opelika, Al. These courses on the RTJ (Robert Trent Jones, Sr. ) trail have hosted many auspicious events and tournaments, including:

  • NCAA D1 Men's and Women's National Championships
  • LPGA Tour
  • Symetra Tour (LPGA)
  • Korn Ferry Tour (PGA TOUR)
  • PGA TOUR

Grand National has also garnered numerous awards from golf publications. It was voted in the top 10 of America's 50 Most Affordable Golf Courses by Golf Digest. Readers of Golf World also voted this course the #1 public golf spot in America.

Are There Famous Holes on the Grand National Course?

The Robert Trent Jones golf course at Grand National is one of the most picturesque in the country. With 32 of the 54 holes adjacent to the lake, this makes for great views and challenging golf!

Grand National's Lakes course is as pretty as they come. However, perhaps the most breathtaking hole is the 230-yard, island green 15th hole. The signature hole at Grand National includes an island green and swirling winds to make your tee shot a real challenge.

The 18th hole on the Links course is a par 4 touted as the strongest finishing hole of the RTJ trail. The drive carries over a corner of the lake with the threat of landing in a foreboding bunker. Then, the approach shot plays to a shallow pedestal green surrounded by huge boulders.

How to Get a Tee Time

There is plenty of golf to be had at RTJ Grand National. Choose between three 18-hole courses, The Lake Course, The Links, and the 18 par-3 holes of the Short Course—or play them all!

The elevation changes and proximity to so much water make these courses very challenging. They might damage your handicap, but they won't damage your wallet. The Lakes Course and Links are amongst the most affordable courses in America.

Due to the mild Alabama weather, the courses at Grand National are playable year-round. To book your round of golf at this championship course, send an email to ReservationsRequest@RTJGolf.com. Alternatively, call either of the following two numbers:

  • Local: 205-942-0444
  • Toll-free:  1-800-949-4444, option 2

The reservations office is open from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm Monday to Friday. If you want to book your tee time within seven days, contact the pro shop directly or book your tee time online.
